Here at Brimah and John, we have numerous inspirations! One of which are fabulous women, with a passion and a drive to do what they love and what makes them happy. These women are forging a path for themselves in their chosen fields and are an inspiration to us all. So what we like to do, is sit them down in the hot seat, shine a spot light on them... and get to know them a little better!
We got to talking with Seyi, the founder of the halal catering company Canapés and Mocktails. I'm sure at one point in our lives we've all attended an event where we had to opt for the "vegetarian" or "seafood" meal as they didn't cater to our halaal needs. Well, I for one have, and its good to know things may soon change!
Tell us about the concept behind canapés and mocktails.
Canapés + Mocktails is food start up that specialises in providing delicious finger food, mini desserts and non alcoholic drinks to events. Canapés + Mocktails is more than just a food business, it is a combination of food and style, which translates in the presentation of our food and drinks.
Tell us about your food journey.
I have always been a foodie, but my love food has grown beyond measure! You will always find me on a food website or Pinterest seeking out new recipes.
Describe your daily routine
I always start my day by praying and meditating. I started meditating recently, this, along with my prayers really helps me in starting my day off right. I try, to get some breakfast on the days I go to uni. On the days that I don't have uni I have a little lie in and have a nice and filling breakfast before going about my day and complete tasks that I have set myself the night before.
What inspires you over at canapés and mocktails?
I am inspired by hardworking individuals. They are living proof that with hard work and perseverance, success is achievable.
What's your favourite quote?
"It is the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
If you weren't in food, what would you be doing?
This is a tricky one, as food is not the only thing I do. I am a bit of a random person. As well as doing Canapés + mocktails, I am also blogging, and working towards a career in Science and Healthcare industry.
What's next for canapés and mocktails?
We are currently planning an event that will be happening very soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
Run us through a canapés and mocktails day for an event.
Preparation starts weeks before event. As I said earlier, Canapés + Mocktails is more than just a food business, so I like to look for inspiration for presentation. The night before an event the preparation for the food and desserts begins, whilst preparation for the fruits used in the drinks is done on the morning of an event.
What's your go-to everyday look?
Anything black, navy, khaki or white. However I am trying to wear more colour as spring draws in.
If you could only keep three things from your wardrobe what would you pick?
My favourite blazer, white shirt and black trousers.
What's your "on fleek" outfit, you know that outfit you own that never fails to have you looking 10/10?
It would have to be my wide leg navy trousers with a nice crisp blouse and well fitted blazer, and of course some heels, though I don’t really wear them.
Describe your personal style?
Simple with accessories here and there.
Who's your style crush
Miroslava Duma, she's short like me and knows how to style herself. I take serious notes from her style.
We know you love to travel, where have you been and which place was your favourite?
So I far I have been to France, Nigeria, USA and Dubai. It is hard to pick a favourite but it would have to be Dubai
Are you a book worm or film fanatic?
A book worm as I make my own film up in my head. I really hope I’m not the only one that does that. This is really embarrassing, but when I was younger, I used to put the book I read under my pillow so I can play the film I created in my head in my dream.
What's your biggest pet peeve?
If you could only shop in one store for the rest of your life (okay let's be more realistic), or the rest of the year where would it be?
ASOS, although that may be considered cheating as they sell other brands.
Sunglasses at the beach, or Wellies on an adventure trail?
Sunglasses at the beach!
If you were guaranteed one wish, what would you wish for?
For everyone I know and don't know to find happiness and peace of mind.
If you could go shopping in anyone's wardrobe, who's would it be?
Again, Miroslava Duma.
You've gone a week without your phone, laptop, or any other interpersonal contact, who do you miss talking to?
I really cant pick one person, but it would be my family and closest friends, (they know who they are!)
